About Jerusalem A.M.E.

What We Believe

The standard of faither for the A.M.E. Church is the 25 Articles of Religion. Key doctrines of African Methodism are:

  • God is the creator of heaven and earth
  • Jesus Christ, God's only son, is Lord and Savior over all who believe
  • Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, was dead and was buried
  • The suffering and death of Jesus Christ is for the sins of the whole human race. It is universal
  • The Crucifixion of Jesus was the ultimate and supreme sacrifice that was required to redeem humanity from sin, restoring the relationship between humanity and God broken in the Garden of Eden
  • The Resurrection of Jesus on the third day from the grave with all power over heaven and earth. Jesus the Christ now sits at the right hand of God Almighty, interceding on behalf of those whoe believe on Christ
  • Personal repentance towards our Lord and Savior, and to have faith in Christ. Both are united in Holy Scriptures
  • Justification through faith. Justification and forgiveness of sins are the same in Methodist theology
  • Regeneration is the work of the Holy Spirit by which we experience a change of heart
  • Sanctification is the work of the Holy Spirit. Holiness is the conformity of the heart and life to the law of God
  • Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to comfor, teach, guide, sustain and empower the believer while we await the second coming of Jesus Christ

The Vision

A body of believers, working together to restore the faith community. Like the city for which it is named, Jerusalem A.M.E. is a center of worship for all the people of God, the place where God's honor dwells.

A church for all people, relating with one another, embracing our differences, encouraging one another, working together, praising and worshipping the God of our salvation together.

It is the missiong of Jerusalem A.M.E. church to "rebuild the wall" and spirituality restore the people within our community (Neh 3; Neh 8). Rebuilding the wall is a major project, but it is not the complete work to be done.

We point the lost toward salvation through Jesus Christ, preach the Gospel, teach Bible truths, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, house the homeless, visit those in hospitals, nursing homes, and senior citizens' homes; visit the sick, shut-in and imprisoned. We promote economic advancement, as evidenced through spiritual empowerment, liberation, and restoration.
