About the Pastor

A graduate of the University of Nebraska, Diane H. Johnson received the Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education.  She has since earned the Master of Education, the Master of Business Administration, the Master of Divinity degrees from Howard University and the Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.  Married to James E. Johnson, they are the blessed parents of two children, JaMescha and James.

Formerly General Sales Manager for Howard University Radio, WHUR-FM, and Chairperson and founding member of the Christian African American Booksellers Association, Rev. Johnson, along with her husband, previously owned Gospel Notes Records and Books Store for over 13 years.  She contributed an article “Leadership: Brick by Brick, Together” to the Women of Color Study Bible and her brief essay, “Brick by Brick (bill by bill) is included in the book Sister to Sister Vol. 2: Devotions for and from African American Women.  Dr. Johnson currently serves on the Executive Board of the Collective Banking Group.

Licensed to preach and ordained an Itinerant Elder by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Dr. Johnson serves as the founding pastor of Jerusalem A.M.E. Church in Clinton, MD.  The Jerusalem Church family moved into their permanent church home during their 4th year of existence, to God be the Glory.  Rev. Johnson serves as the Coordinator for the A.M.E. / Women-In-Ministry Caucus for the Second Episcopal District and she is an Instructor on the Board of Examiners for the A.M.E. Institute for Ministerial Training.

This gifted woman has obtained many distinguished academic and professional accomplishments, yet she is often referred to as “friendly and down to earth”.  And, though she is a warm, loving and nurturing minister, who offers a quick smile, an easy laugh, and an encouraging word for those whom God places in her path, Reverend Dr. Johnson believes preaching, teaching and spreading the word of God is serious business.

When asked what has been the highlight of her Christian life she responds, the day God met her at Mt. Calvary, called her by name, packed all her gifts and talents in a seed, dropped it in fertile holy ground, protected and watered it with Jesus’ blood and her sweat and tears until she was mature enough to drink from the fountain of living water, yielded enough to receive her anointing to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and wise enough to give all honor and glory to God.
